Socially Distant Together

As senior care communities we have had to navigate restrictions placed on activities and events to keep our residents safe and healthy, we have faced the challenge of  ‘thinking outside the box’ to keep our residents engaged.

Life Enrichment Coordinators are responsible for planning activities and events to engage residents while providing a high quality of care.  Many of our LEC’s from each of our communities have found creative ways to engage residents and lift spirits during this pandemic.

Here is a message from our amazing Life Enrichment Coordinator Cori, she is part of our care team at South Beach Manor Memory Care.

“We are all experiencing some interesting times with the virus affecting all of us in an assortment of ways. Here at South Beach Manor, it is vitally important to support our residents in a most positive and caring manner.

I have created an “Outdoor Concert” series! Our first concert was with Barb, who entertained us with the vibraphone, keyboard and even a washtub, along with her vocals and great sense of humor and connection with the residents. The residents were served a slushy drink and safely lined up along our building while Barb was a good twenty feet away. She sang many familiar tunes and residents knew many of the words and sang along. It was a delightful event for all!

Evan graced us with his performance on the bagpipes yesterday. He is a very poised twelve-year-old who spoke with the residents before each song to give a bit of background on each one. The weather cooperated as Evan entertained and it was a delightful experience!

Coming up-an amazing violinist and more vibraphone…stay tuned as I continue to add other performers!!!!

BBQ Mondays are also turning into a big hit here at South Beach Manor! Every other Monday is a themed BBQ, with Chef Ted turning out a sumptuous meal and I decorate complete with theme-appropriate “garb” for the residents to wear and music to match. This last Monday was our Hawaiian BBQ and our very own employee, Sene, performed Hawaiian dance! It truly was a special event.

Check out our Facebook page for pics, news and upcoming events!”

We encourage you to check back with us to see how our other amazing communities are staying connected safely.  It is so important that each of our residents stay engaged, active, and healthy.
