Overview:  The Cook prepares and serves meals as specified in the menus and recipes prepared by the dietitian, using proper food handling, sanitation, and infection control procedures. Coordinates service with Dietary Manager.

Reports to:

  • The Administrator
  • The Dietary Manager

Qualifications and Job Skills:

  • The Cook should have experience and skills in institutional cooking;
  • The Cook must be able to do the following:
  • Understand and carry out instructions;
  • Work with kitchen assistants and Dietary Manager;
  • Understand and follow the recipes and serve portion controlled diets;
  • Lift and move boxes weighing at least 25 pounds;
  • Must demonstrate a commitment to the safe practices, infection control and respect for residents’ rights;
  • Must understand and be able to provide specialized diets;
  • Must have a commitment to customer/resident service;
  • Must be able to cook food that is of good quality and pleasing to the residents;
  • Must be organized;
  • Must have a current Food Handler’s Permit.

Job Duties:

  • Oversee meal preparation:
  • Cook;
  • Presentation;
  • Cleanliness;
  • Quality (properly date all food items);
  • Review and know resident diet needs;
  • Assist with marketing/social events as required;
  • Be responsible for kitchen/dining room cleanliness and organization;
  • Dishes;
  • Floors;
  • All appliances;
  • Counters/tables;
  • Sinks;
  • Refrigerators/freezers/other storage;
  • Monitor food/equipment temperatures;
  • Assist and support Dietary Manager and Administrator as required; AND anything that helps staff coordinate consistent, quality care and service in the facility. Other items as requested by Administrator and/or anything else that is needed to keep the facility operating smoothly.
